Montserrat, meaning "serrated mountain" in Catalan, is a stunning multi-peaked mountain range located about 50 kilometers northwest of Barcelona. The mountain's unique, jagged silhouette gives it its name and creates a dramatic backdrop for the Benedictine abbey that has been a place of pilgrimage for nearly 1,000 years.

The Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey is home to the Virgin of Montserrat, affectionately known as "La Moreneta" (the Little Dark One) due to the dark color of her skin. This 12th-century Romanesque statue of the Virgin Mary and Child is Catalonia's patron saint and one of the most venerated images in Spain.

Beyond its spiritual significance, Montserrat offers breathtaking natural beauty, world-class hiking trails, and the Escolania de Montserrat - one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe, dating back to the 13th century.
