Winter transfers · Andorra ski season 2026/27 · Grandvalira opens 4 December
The Pyrenees' biggest ski season is back. Grandvalira — at 215 km the largest ski area in the Pyrenees and one of the largest in Europe — opens its 2026/27 season on 4 December 2026 (official schedule, weather permitting). Here is everything you need to plan a Barcelona-based ski trip to Andorra this winter.
| Resort | Planned opening | Usual closing |
|---|---|---|
| Grandvalira (Soldeu, El Tarter, Pas de la Casa…) | 4 December 2026 | mid-April 2027 |
| Pal Arinsal | early December (TBC) | early April 2027 |
| Ordino Arcalís | early December (TBC) | early April 2027 |
Dates can shift with snowfall — the resorts confirm exact days in late November. We update this page when they do.
There is no train and no airport in Andorra — everyone arrives by road. Your options from Barcelona:
| Option | Time | Cost | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct bus (Als/DirectBus) | ~3h | €35–45 | Fixed departures; often full on winter weekends; no gear flexibility |
| Rental car | 2h 45 | €60–120/day + fuel | Winter tires/chains legally required in Andorra Nov 1–May 15; mountain pass driving in snow; parking at resorts |
| Private transfer (Royal Falcon) | 2h 30–45 | from €189 per vehicle | Door-to-door, winter-equipped, fixed price — best for groups and families |
From 1 November to 15 May, every vehicle circulating in Andorra must carry winter tires (M+S), or snow chains. Rental cars from Spanish airports often come with summer tires — driving the Envalira pass without legal equipment risks fines and, worse, being turned back mid-journey. All Royal Falcon vehicles carry compliant winter equipment all season.
December dates fill from October onward — reserve early.
